Community Centers

The Carver Center

It's pretty crazy how many past and present community centers used to be schools. You want a list?
Philomont, Arcola (1), Arcola (2), Waterford, Hillsboro, Lucketts, Round Hill, Bluemont, Carver, Douglass, Loudoun Valley (former Purcellville ES), Lovettsville, and Sterling Annex all used to be schools, but since then have operated as community centers. The only community centers that haven't been schools are Sterling, Middleburg, and the Dulles South Center.

Most are owned by Parks and Recreation. Waterford and Hillsboro are owned by their namesake towns (Hillsboro happens to be the oldest ex-school on the list, opening 1874). Douglass and Round Hill are still LCPS buildings. Douglass is part-school, part-community center. Round Hill Center is a LCPS support facility, but it is also currently being used as a substitute center while Bluemont is being renovated.

The next school to operate under Parks and Rec will be Leesburg HS, the old North Street Administrative Offices. It is currently being converted into a senior center and will open this fall.

I'm taking weekends off on the blog, so have a great weekend!
